For the price, this is a great jacket, especially for the brand. I ordered this for my average size 4 year old who is in 4-5t clothes. He weighs about 40 lbs. The jacket overall is a bit big but I am okay with that. Room to grow! However, the neck of the jacket is so, so small in comparison. The inner fleece jacket barely zips up all the way and when it does, it annoys my son. It's pretty much the same deal with the exterior as well. That being said, I chose not to return it because we liked all the other aspects of it.We have washed and dried the inner fleece jacket (albeit on low heat for only 15 min then hung up) and it washed up nicely. I like that it's two pieces and we can put them on independently of each other but my main reason for purchasing this was so that we could take the exterior off while in his car seat and he would still have the fleece on and be warm.I think if they fixed the neck issue, this would be a great jacket. The colors are nice too.Columbia has really become a very reliable brand. I was only able to fit this jacket, though, after exploring the user reviews (thanks to all that contributed). It's pretty roomy for my 4'8 or so 9 year old, but that was my target. We bought halfway through 2013-14 winter, so I'd like it to have some legs left next year. The liner and shell fit together very well, which means that separating the units takes more time than the 2 minutes my son left before the bus arrived. I took a star away from my son for that. With Columbia, I only took away the star because of the research needed to fit the coat. The product is great and the price is on the very high side of fair. The quality of workmanship and style are fantastic. For a five year old going on six finding a "rain coat", "fall coat", "slicker" without cartoons emblazed all over them or in day glow colors is impossible. We wanted something that would protect our child in the weather and last a couple seasons. This Jacket actually has a built in system which allows you to extend the sleeves a couple inches. We expect this coat to last a long time. Here is a tip: The actual size chart if you find it can be slightly deceptive. I read as many reviews as possible and managed to determine the size we needed. Our son is slight of build, 42 inches tall. The small is ever so slightly big on him but if he is wearing other clothing it fits perfectly. The shell is perfect for cold fall days or rainy spring days, Insert the super soft and comfy fleece sweater and it is perfect for winter in western New York. I went to The Bonton at our mall and they were almost double the price of amazon. So I played it safe and tested sizes there, my 5 year old son is in 6-7 clothes and the extra small fit perfectly with the liner in and a little baggy without. In my opinion its win win, great multi season coat for around $70-$85. My only advice would be to double check coat sizes , Columbia runs a little bigger in size then other coats I've purchased for him. This is exactly the kind of jacket I wanted for my son. The outer part is water resistant and fairly thick. Then, there is the additionaly snap-in fleece jacket. The jackets can be worn individually or together as a system. We live in Texas, where, thankfully, we have mild winters. This shoudl serve him well. I got the XX-small and it is only slightly large on my son, who is 90% for height and is just starting to fit 4T clothes. It was also a fantastic deal. This jacket is perfect, we don't have much of a winter but my boy is off to camp in 2014 and it will be much colder than where we live. This jacket is so versatile with the multi layers and buy it on the big size as the sleeves have pull in wrist straps so you can have it a little longer to keep their back warm and get a good 2-3 years out of it just what I wanted I bought the same for my daughter in purple she was very happy.I've been searching for a warm, water resistant jacket for my son and found this one. I like that it has the inner jacket that he can wear alone or together to stay warm. I love the way this jacket looks on him...very stylish! He's 4.5 so it's a little bit, but I just put a cuff in the sleeve and it's good to go. He'll be able to grow into it and have it for at least another season!!Love this coat! Bought it for my twin 8 year old boys. We have always bought Colombia for the kids because of the quality and look, this coat is no exception! Only concern is I wish the Zipper was a little more durable. Beautiful coat! Thanks Colombia!
